About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented compliance professional to join our Advocacy and Professional Standards team as the Manager of Assurance and Compliance on a12-month fixed-term contract.This pivotal role ensures that IPA upholds the highest standards of ethical and professional behaviour of its members.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the end-to-end assurance and compliance function, including complaints investigation, disciplinary processes, and regulatory reporting as needed. This position plays a key role in safeguarding the integrity of the IPA and the broader accounting profession by ensuring members meet their professional obligations and by responding appropriately when standards are not met.
Key Accountabilities of the Role
- Manage and execute the complaints and investigations processes by handling enquiries, investigating complaints, maintaining accurate records, preparing detailed reports and recommendations.
- Coordinate the IPA Disciplinary Tribunal process by acting as Executive Officer, organising hearings, compiling case documentation, liaising with panel members, and overseeing accurate minute-taking.
- Administer IPA Pronouncement 12 – Administration of Member Compliance by administering and monitoring cases, issuing warnings, actioning membership suspensions or forfeitures, and liaising with the Professional Conduct Committee.
- Ensure that the Professional Conduct Committee is operating efficiently and effectively with reference to its function and requirements. Oversee the imposition and tracking of administrative penalties and report disciplinary outcomes.
- Contribute to the IPA’s Quality Review Program and other co-regulatory functions as required.
- Develop and improve internal processes within the Assurance and Compliance function.
- Draft and update technical guidance, website content, and member-facing compliance materials.
- Provide briefings and reports to the Chief Executive Officer and Group Executive, Advocacy and Professional Standards, including for submissions to statutory bodies, including but not limited the Financial Reporting Council and Professional Standards Councils.
- Liaise with regulatory and statutory bodies, preparing formal responses to notices and enquiries.
- Manage system improvement and policy projects relevant to compliance and co-regulatory functions.
- Educate IPA staff and members on ethical and professional conduct expectations.
- Prepare and manage the compliance function’s budget and participate in broader team activities, projects, and events.
- Represent the IPA at external committees, forums, and working groups as required.
Required or Preferred Skills and Competencies
- Tertiary qualifications in Commerce or a related discipline such as Law, Arts, Accounting or Economics, preferably with a focus on compliance or regulation.
- Proven experience in managing compliance or disciplinary activities, ideally within a professional association, regulator, or legal/accounting practice.
- In-depth understanding of ethical and professional standards in a professional services context.
- Strong investigative and analytical skills, with a structured and detail-focused approach.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to handle sensitive matters tactfully.
- Effective time management, organisational, and project management capabilities.
- Calm, composed demeanour under pressure and ability to manage challenging situations.
- Proven ability to manage staff and work both independently and collaboratively.
- Experience preferred in engaging with statutory and regulatory bodies.
