The Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources was created on 1 July 2012 to unify environment and natural resources management in South Australia.
Flinders Chase National Park is a must for any Kangaroo Island parks adventure. This vast area of wilderness features the iconic Remarkable Rocks, Admirals Arch and a long-nosed fur seal colony. The park is recovering naturally following the 2019-20 summer bushfires. The park's coastal heath, woodlands and forests are re-growing and koalas, eagles, kangaroos, echidnas and goannas are regularly spotted in the park. A selection of campsites and walking trails have reopened. Entry and camping fees apply, pay online before you go. There is a wifi payment hotspot at Rocky River but given the remote location the connection can be slow. NPWS staff are in the park daily from 9am to 5pm. Park facilities are limited and include portable toilets. We acknowledge and respect the deep spiritual connection and the relationship that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have to Country.
The Department works in partnership with the First Peoples of South Australia and supports their Nations to take a leading role in caring for their Country.
